VIA Survey Packages
Export observations, photographs and template information together in a .via file.
A VIA Survey Package keeps one survey and its supporting information together for transfer. It can include typed observation attributes, template/category definitions and available revisions, thumbnails, photographs and their metadata, and the currently selected original LandXML alignment.
Check the survey and project context
Open the intended survey. Confirm the current working CRS and selected alignment before export: these are used to resolve optional engineering coordinates and alignment context. A package can still be exported without a configured grid, but grid or chainage/offset values may then be unavailable. Pause recording first if you want a clearly defined final set of points.
Create the package
- Open Survey and tap the share icon beside Active Survey.
- Choose VIA Survey Package (.via).
- Choose Photograph Quality: Standard is the default.
- Tap Export Package and wait for preparation. Use Cancel package export if you need to stop generation.
- Read any warnings, then share or save the file. On iPhone use Save to Files from the system share sheet.
Choose a photograph size
| Preset | Maximum image edge before any properties panel |
|---|---|
| High | 2560 px |
| Standard | 1600 px |
| Compact | 1024 px |
| Preview | 640 px |
Smaller presets reduce file size and detail. Small source photographs are not enlarged. Export normally prepares JPEG photographs with observation metadata. The Photography setting controls whether a properties panel is added; it does not change stored source files.
Read warnings before handing over
A package may report unavailable photographs, thumbnails or original alignment files, or metadata/processing fallbacks. Such a package may lack an asset you expected even though the survey observations remain available. Check the message and source files before relying on it as a complete handover.
With the properties panel disabled, some unsupported or unprocessable photographs can fall back to the acquired original with a metadata sidecar and a warning. With the panel enabled, inability to produce the required annotated photograph can stop export. Try a supported source image or deliberately choose whether a panel is needed.
Use the exported file
Keep the .via extension for a compatible receiving application. VIA links to AXIS in Settings and its package messages; check the receiving version’s package support before a handover. Exporting a package does not add an import/restore function to VIA.
Existing photographs remain exportable without active Pro access. Confirm the exported file at its destination, especially for photo-heavy surveys. Low storage and large packages can prevent completion.
