Coordinate Systems
Choose the working grid used by your project.
A coordinate reference system (CRS) gives meaning to Easting and Northing. Choose the project grid before interpreting an alignment or reference coordinates. Similar-looking coordinate values can belong to different systems.
Select a stored system
- Open Settings → Coordinate System.
- Tap Active coordinate system.
- Select the required system. Check its name and code back in Settings before continuing.
Find another coordinate system
- With an internet connection, tap Fetch.
- Enter a system name or code in Search coordinate systems and submit the search using the keyboard.
- Tap the matching result. VIA adds it locally and makes it active.
Understand the result
VIA transforms device latitude/longitude into the selected working grid. Imported reference E/N values remain as supplied: changing the CRS changes their map interpretation, not their stored values. Alignments must already use coordinates compatible with your chosen grid.
The horizontal transformation passes altitude through; it does not convert it to a project level datum. Confirm the height source before using an exported Level as an engineering level.
If coordinates look wrong
Check the project’s CRS, units and a known control point. Changing display order to Northing/Easting does not transform coordinates or rearrange import columns. A system appearing in the catalogue does not establish that every datum transformation or external grid resource is available. Resolve discrepancies before relying on the result.
