VIA 2.0 · User Guide

Importing Alignments

Load a LandXML file and choose the horizontal alignment to use.

For VIA 2.0. Some controls are unavailable in earlier versions.

Use an alignment to read chainage and offset, calculate grid coordinates or find an alignment-relative target. Have a LandXML/XML file available in Files, and know its coordinate system and units.

Import and select

  1. In Settings → Coordinate System, choose the matching project grid.
  2. Under Alignment, tap Import and select your LandXML file.
  3. Tap Active alignment and select the named alignment you need.
  4. Check the active name and Source file in Settings, then open Navigation to inspect its position.

What VIA reads

VIA reads named horizontal alignments containing straights, circular arcs and clothoid transition spirals. Chainage starts from the alignment’s supplied start station. Vertical profiles, surfaces, unsupported spiral types and geometry repair are outside this workflow.

Importing another file replaces the active collection of available alignments. Make sure the selected name is still the one you intend to use. Import does not automatically establish the file’s CRS or convert its geometry into another grid.

If import fails or the map position is wrong

Make the file available locally in Files and check that it contains named alignments with usable horizontal geometry. Unsupported or incomplete XML can be rejected. Check the working grid and source units if the alignment appears in the wrong place. Do not try to correct geometry by choosing an unrelated CRS.
