Creating and Managing Surveys
Create a local survey, reopen it and continue recording.
A survey groups the observations from a field task. Give it a recognisable name so that you can return to it and identify exported files. For live recording, allow location access and select your working CRS.
Create your survey
- Open the Survey tab and tap New Survey.
- Enter a name, for example Drainage inspection — practice, and confirm.
- Check the name shown under Active Survey.
- Tap Continue to open the recording session. Set the next Point Number and use Record Point for a manual observation.
Continue a previous survey
- Return to Survey and tap Open Survey.
- Search by survey name if needed and select the saved survey.
- Check the active name, tap Continue, and check the next point number before recording.
Correct the last capture
In the recording session, Undo Last asks you to confirm removal of the last recorded point. Check the next point number afterwards. This is not a general editor for older observations. Current VIA does not offer a saved-observation form editor or survey rename/delete controls.
Keep a usable copy
Surveys are local to the device. Export regularly, especially before replacing or removing the app. Open Survey opens a saved local survey; it does not import a .via package. The active survey also supplies survey points shown on the maps.
If the expected points are missing
Check that the correct survey is active and the Survey points map layer is enabled. A reference file is a separate collection and does not add recorded observations to a survey.
